J.McLaughlin x Dempsey & Carroll Holiday 2018

We always love collaborating with other brands to bring new designs to our paper. In some cases, our partnerships have resulted in multiple collections over the years.

We were delighted when our friends at J.McLaughlin approached us earlier this year to collaborate for the third time.  Once the design process began, we knew that we wanted to try something completely different!

When the J.McLaughlin team showed us the geometric prints from their fabric collaboration with Florida-based artist John Pirman, we were absolutely charmed! The pops of red, gold, and blue would translate beautifully to the linings of our envelopes, and engraved holiday sentiments would tie the collection together.

We’re thrilled to ring in the holiday season with our J.McLaughlin Holiday card collection!

Destination 2018

As we celebrated the holiday season and closed out 2017, we worked with five fantastic lifestyle influencers to share their holiday traditions and New Year’s resolutions through handwritten notes.

First, our partners started off by sharing their holiday traditions on one of our newest collections – our Home for the Holidays: City holiday cards. We loved seeing how everyone celebrates the holiday season each year and the sense of connectedness to family and loved ones.

A few days later, in anticipation of New Year’s Day, our partners posted a selection of photos featuring their goals and resolutions for 2018.

We’re excited to share our friends’ posts with you – after all, it’s a new year, let’s start it on a new note!

… Here’s to a fantastic year ahead.

Jackie Greaney

@jackiegreaney moved to a new home in 2017, but her old traditions of bourbon milk punch & cookies for neighbors and handwritten holiday cards continued on. Jackie used our collaboration with The Maryn to jot down her 2018 goal of doing more international travel (preferably to someplace warm)!

Beth and Danielle, Palm Beach Lately

Christmastime in NYC holds special memories for @palmbeachlately because Danielle and her husband got engaged here during the holiday season. Beth and Danielle chose our Palm Beach Collection: Everglades Island set to share their 2018 goal of finding more ways to spread the Palm Beach sunshine!

Meghan Murray

@meghanmurray’s favorite holiday traditions include enjoying tea and cookies while staying cozy and writing Christmas cards to friends. Meghan shared that she hopes to have a new year filled with lots of great food (and champagne, of course) and travel adventures. Our Jet Set: Paris cards surely set the tone for a travel-filled 2018!

Carissa Burton

@carissa_burton shared a few of the wonderful Christmas traditions in her family, like singing Christmas carols by the fire with eggnog and gathering in the kitchen to decorate sugar cookies. Carissa used our Palm Beach: Tarpon Island cards to write down her dreams for 2018, like committing to unplug for a bit each day and giving back to the community.

Andrea Nunez

@andreannu spent her first holiday season in New York and was able to experience the magic of the Rockefeller Center tree and all of the festivities around the city. Her first holiday season away from home prompted a new tradition of sending handwritten notes back home to her family and loved ones overseas. Andrea then used our Jet Set: New York cards to create a bucket list for all of the new places in and around New York City that she’d like visit in 2018!

Destination Dempsey: Fourth of July 2017

We’ve had a lot of fun in the office sharing stories about how we enjoyed our July 4th holiday weekends. From overseas, to right here in New York, Dempsey & Carroll knows how to make the most out of any destination!

My holiday was spent right here in sleepy New York City hanging out in the parks and strolling the river fronts. I live on the Lower East Side so it’s a quick jaunt down to the Seaport to hop on the new ferry to Rockaway Beach. The breezes were delightful and only a few oyster catchers were our nearest neighbors. – Austin

One of the most mesmerizing experience was to sail the Mediterranean Sea while watching the sunset along the cost of Barcelona—a must do for anyone visiting this breathtaking part of Spain.  I also think that strolling through Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter is eye opening and very enjoyable for art lovers. While walking through the Gothic Quarter, you might find yourself eating at a food blogger’s all-time favorite spot ‘Flax & Kale’ or shopping at Love Vintage.  I learned that regardless of what you have planned for your day, Barcelona is a city full of gorgeous little surprises. - Umara

Storm King Mountain

Over the holiday weekend my family and I drove to see the beautiful scenery along the Hudson River. We ended our site seeing adventure looking towards Storm King Mountain– It was one of the most breathtaking views I have ever seen. I felt like I had traveled to a completely different world. I always love exploring New York State and photographing my journeys! – Ariel

I enjoyed a stellar weekend with my family on Cape Cod.  We were primarily in a town called Brewster, but also took a day trip to Provincetown.  There was plenty of swimming, fishing, grilling, and sparklers to celebrate the 4th of July holiday! – Megan

It’s always nice to spend a few days in London. The weather was unseasonably warm for my visit, which was a delightful treat! I visited a few of my favorite parks – Green Park in St. James (such a cute area) and Regent’s Park. Queen Mary’s rose garden was in bloom, which was a really rare to see. We did a ton of eating, too! Nopi in Soho was great for lunch and we had some wonderful dinners at The Wolseley, Luca, and Barrafina. The new Barrafina location in Soho is a lot bigger than the Drury Lane location, so it was pretty easy to get a seat – plus it’s really fun to eat snacks and have a few cocktails at the counter as you wait for a seat to pop up. Selfridges also had a great Wimbledon themed bar on their roof while we were in town. It was a nice way to break up the day – a Pimm’s Cup and Andy Murray on a roof in Mayfair – not bad! – Carolyn

There’s nothing like heading out of the city for a holiday weekend to enjoy the beautiful Adirondack Mountains in Upstate New York. I grew up in the area, so it’s always a treat to hike in the High Peaks with my family and friends and then kick back with craft beer from Ausable Brewing Company after a long day on the trails. There’s also a charming Farmers Market every Sunday at Marcy Airfield in Keene Valley, where you can find purchase fruits and vegetables, freshly baked bread, and a variety of local goods. The drive to Keene Valley on Route 9N has the most breathtaking views as you head to The Garden, which is main trailhead for the Johns Brook area. – Emma

Highlights from Memorial Day Weekend

Though the Solstice is weeks away, Memorial Day is generally considered the unofficial start of summer. A few of our team members shared highlights from how they kicked off the season in style over the holiday weekend!

A Birthday Weekend in the City

Leo: Nothing beats a holiday weekend on my favorite island, Manhattan.  We celebrated a special birthday at Gramercy Tavern, where walk-in tables were easy to score. The “off the menu” order, a bacon cheeseburger with otherworldly house made chips, garnered jealous questioning from surrounding tables.

A Road Trip Through Connecticut

Jaimie: I’m a relatively new Connecticut resident so I love to hop in the car and explore my new home on weekends. There is so much natural beauty here, and there are so many charming towns to visit.

Dinner by the sea in Maine

Emma: My family was up in Durham for my sister’s graduation from the University of New Hampshire and we took advantage of our proximity to southern Maine. We dined on delicious lobsters at Fox’s Lobster House while enjoying the beautiful views of The Cape Neddick (“Nubble”) Lighthouse.

Exploring Rockland County, New York

Ariel: I love exploring Nyack Beach State Park because it allows me to escape from the city without having to travel too far! It’s my favorite place to stay-cation. We also had the chance to visit the site of Piermont’s Watch Fire, a Memorial Day tradition to honor fallen soldiers.

Weekend Getaways

Labor Day is seen as the last hurrah of summer before the busyness of fall sets in. Some of the Dempsey & Carroll team shared where they chose to spend their Holiday Weekend and what made their time enjoyable.

Rye, NY

“I love taking the train up to Westchester for the weekends. It’s so close to the city, but feels like it’s a world away! Heading to Rye Town Beach on Friday nights in the summer is one of my favorite things to do –- Rye Playland does a firework show each Friday night, which is the perfect way to end a night after walking along the shore.”

Montauk , NY

“It was a great way to escape the heat in the city and have some fun at the beach. There great seafood to be had at The Surf Lodge and Navy Beach!”

Gateway National Recreation Area, NY

“As my partner and I prepare for a big trip in just a few weeks, we stayed around town over the holiday weekend,  but did spend a great deal of time in the squares and riverside. We also went out to the bird sanctuary on Broad Channel Island which is part of the Gateway National Recreation Area. It’s near the Rockaways so you feel these wonderful sea breezes. It was a wonderful time to visit because this is when you see the juveniles.

A Snowy Egret

A particularly great sighting was of the snowy egret juveniles that are so slight that they almost disappear, and of course the osprey were circling and diving and then soaring off with the catch of the day.”

The Jersey Shore, NJ

“Labor Day weekend is bittersweet no matter where you spend it, but at least this sunset helped. I was also really glad the hurricane never came.”

The US Open, NY

I spent summer’s last gasp in town. I had a wonderful time on “the middle Saturday” at The Open. The Grandstand court is an instant classic, super intimate, tucked off the
beaten path with the seats sunken below grade. It also has dedicated bars, and shops. I loved finding my friend Bill Draddy’s ‘B.Draddy’ shirts on sale, snagged this Rhys Stripe number.”

“I went to Cold Spring with my family. It’s a super quaint town and I loved how close knit the community is there and the unique antique shops. The view was also stunning!”

Block Island, RI

The Southeast Lighthouse

“Spending time on ‘The Block’ is a family tradition and it is refreshing to see that much of the island has remained unchanged. You can rent a bike for a morning ride through town to grab coffee and a pastry from Aldo’s Bakery before heading to Town Beach to relax and swim. When the weather isn’t nice enough for swimming, it makes for a wonderful reason to hike around the Mohegan Bluffs and the Southeast Lighthouse. The 1661 Inn Restaurant is the perfect place to dine for a special occasion as it is tucked away from the main part of town.”
