Etiquette Fun Facts with RBW: Children at Weddings

Welcome to our first – Etiquette Fun Facts.

Today’s Fun Fact comes to us from our partners at Were You Raised by Wolves?  We love their hilarious weekly podcasts of etiquette, manners, and beyond.  They work to make the world a nicer, more polite place with practical advice to help you smoothly glide through any situation.

In a recent episode, a bride wants to be sure that there are no children at her wedding and she is concerned that some of her guests may bring them.

The answer is actually quite simple. The invitation is addressed to those who are invited. If the invitation says “Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Edison”, Tom is expected to bring his wife. If the invitation is addressed “Mr. Ben Affleck,” Ben is expected to come alone. “Ms. Jennifer Anniston and guest” – she can bring a date.  “The Edison Family” – Tom can bring pretty much anyone, although this usually implies immediate family – parents plus offspring.

Listen to the episode here for other amusing options – like pre-filling the response card:       2      Guests, or printing “No children, please.”
